Criminal Defense For Attorneys
Criminal Defense News
In New York City, arrests of juveniles under the age of sixteen are handled by Family Court. It is important to have an attorney who understands the Family Court process when it comes to arrests of juveniles. Children are subject to crimina prosecution as well as placement in one of New York City's juvenile detention centers. This "placement" can happen immediately after the juvenile has been arrested and can seperate families for months or even years. It is also important to note that trials in Family Court are only done by a judge and not a jury. So while a jury may be sympethetic to the plight of a confused child, most Family Court judges do not see these cases in that light.
